Spring 2025 Update

L
ife has been busy and while I had big plans for this blog it was one of many things that I have put on the back burner. My goal was to write a weekly blog post on how to become a better writer and in true writer form I became distracted and eventually abandoned this project. However, I've returned and still have several pieces for this blog in various stages of development to share.

I started out by looking at some basic questions I have been asked through the years when it comes to writing. I have plenty more in the oven but also some more complicated ones and some that cover aspects of just being an author. I enjoy writing these posts as it gives me some time to reflect but also share my thoughts with the world without feeling like I am giving anyone unsolicited advice. My thoughts shared here are merely my opinion (with some facts sprinkled in) and things may work out for you in other ways.

What have I been up to since July of last year? Early in 2024 I was excited about the release of The Beast of Friday Lake. Since that release I have published another short story in the anthology, Autumn Tales III: Return, which came out in the fall. I also published my second novel (two in one year) based on the Autumn Tales II: Pumpkin Slice Nightmares short story I wrote in 2023. The Kalas Papers Volume 1: Bloodlines was published in December.

Since finishing that book I decided to head back into non-fiction. My latest release, Eastern Cryptids, was published in late March of 2025. I have been speaking at libraries and events with my 2015 book, Handbook for the Amateur Cryptozoologist, as my focus and felt it was beyond time to add something else to my unknown animal catalogue for non-fiction readers. I have gone back and forth about what to write next and still have not made a solid decision as the calendar turns to June.

I have very few events this year, but one I am very excited about will be at a library in Ohio later this fall. I have been asked to participate in a panel discussion with other self-published authors to talk about my experiences and share some insight for those who desire to go that route with their writing. Hopefully, I'll pick up some information along the way as well! More information coming soon.
